A foot valve is a valve which is at the start of a pump suction line, referred to as the foot on the pump system, which has a non-return valve inside to prevent back flow in the pipe line. The benefit of this is that once the suction line is primed, there will always be water held in by the foot valve, once the pump turns off. Connection of a flanged foot valve is to a mating flange with a gasket between. The non-restrictive flanged foot valve is an excellent foot valve for high pump efficiency, low head losses and high flow rate.

A foot valve is a non return valve with strainer attached which usually has a flange connection for bolting to the mating flange. The strainer allows the valve to have a filtering function to it, avoiding any potential damage being caused to the pump, or at least ensure the pump will have a longer service life. The internal seat of the valve and movable disc is what seals the shut off function of the foot valve. Zero leakage automatically occurs when there is back flow in the pipeline, especially with a resilient seat in certain applications. The foot valve is a great solution to priming problems and improve pump start up, and improved fluid flow. The foot valve ensures that a filled suction line is always maintained, even when the pump is not running. Although a foot valve may be an added cost initially to a pipeline system, having a foot valve installed will save your operations from wasted time, and other unnecessary expenses and down time. Foot Valves are easy to install, and have a low friction loss.
