What is the difference between a wafer and a lugged butterfly valve?
A wafer butterfly valve is clamped between two pipe flanges and is the most economical choice for standard inline isolation. A lugged valve has threaded inserts so it bolts to each flange independently, which lets you remove downstream pipework or use it as an end-of-line valve without disturbing the rest of the system.
What does CF8M or 316 stainless steel mean on a valve?
CF8M is the cast equivalent of 316 stainless steel. It gives strong corrosion resistance in water, wastewater, marine and many chemical services, which is why our butterfly, gate, ball and check valves are commonly offered in a 316SS (CF8M) body. Options such as PTFE lining and EPDM seats add further chemical resistance.
Gate valve or knife gate valve: which should I use?
A standard gate valve is for clean liquids where you need full-bore, low-resistance on/off isolation. A knife gate valve has a sharp-edged blade that cuts through slurries, fibrous media and wastewater, so it is the better choice for abrasive or solids-laden lines. We supply both in 316SS, with resilient or metal seating.
Which type of check valve do I need?
Swing check valves suit general water and wastewater lines, ball check valves handle viscous or solids-bearing media, and duckbill check valves are ideal for outfalls and low-pressure lines where a maintenance-free non-return is needed. Foot valves combine a check valve and strainer for pump suction lines. Tell us the media and orientation and we match the type.
